Antique projection lantern (or magic lantern) from the late 19th century, featuring a sheet-metal body and a wooden base. Focusing system: Expandable brown fabric bellows allowing for adjustment of the focal distance between the slide holder and the lens. Optics: Polished brass front lens for projecting glass slides. Illumination unit: Rectangular box made of aged metal, featuring a top chimney to vent heat from the original light source (oil or gas lamp); originally gas/oil-powered but converted for electric lighting.
