Oscillator section.

Three types of output are available from the oscillator:

1. Narrow bands of random noise. 2. Sine waves.

3. Wide band random noise.

1. Narrow bands of random noise.

A narrow band of random noise can be swept automatically over the entire frequency range 20-20ooo Hz. The frequency characteristic is better than ± o.3 dB on ATTENUATOR OUTPUT and better than ± o.5 dB on LOAD.

A. Bandwidth Four different bandwidths can be selected. The "shape

The output voltage is continuously variable by potentiometer at each stage. The signal to hum ratio is greater than 70 dB.

Frequency Seale. 20--20ooo Hz true logarithmic. Accuracy 1% ± 1Hz.

Incremental scale -50 to +50 Hz of main scale reading. Both scales are illuminated.

Noise bands are shown in the table below.

Attenuation relative to the frequency characteristics of the noise bands.

2. Sine waves.
Continuously tunable in the 20-20ooo Hz frequency range. The frequency characteristic is better than ± o.3 dB on the ATTENUATOR OUTPUT and better than ± o:5 dB on LOAD 1 watt load.

A. Output. Matching impedance switchable for 6, 60, 600 or 6ooo ohm load.

Maximum output power 2.5 watts approx. Attenuator variable in 10 dB steps (to within ± o.2 dB) from 125 .tiV to 12.5 V. The output voltage is continuously variable via the potentiometer at each stage. The signal-to-noise ratio is better than 65 dB at maximum output, the signal-to-emission ratio is better than 70 dB.

B. Frequency scale. Truly logarithmic main scale from 20 to 20ooo Hz. Tolerance ± o.7 degrees of theoretical logarithmic curve.

The increment scale varies from -50 to +50 Hz from the main scale reading. Both scales are illuminated.

Frequency range. Flat to .± o.3 dB from 20 to 20ooo Hz. Dynamic range. 50 dB (40 dB is compressed to less than 2 dB). The input signal required for full regulation is approximately 5 V r.m.s.

Input impedance: 25 kohms.

Regulation speed: 3 - 10- 30- 100- 300 and 1ooo dB/sec. Selectable by switch.

Meter section.

A. Signal rectifier. Quasi-r.m.s.

B. Integration time. Five-metre time constants selectable o.3, 1, 3, 10 and 30 seconds.

C. Meter and circuit scale. Illuminated mirror scale.

Scale accuracy greater than 1.5%, circuit accuracy greater than 2% of full scale.

Deviation. Fully protected against overload.

Miscellaneous. Push-button oscillator stop for silent switching
Reverberation measurements.

C. Frequency analysis. \Vorm gear in oscillator p~rmits variable . 

Driven from a 2305 type level motor. Connection made by flexible shaft. Magnetic clutch for clamping and releasing the drive. Clutch can be controlled remotely. Precise synchronisation with the level recorder's calibrated frequency paper.
